Mom's Kitchen
Over Mother’s Day weekend I traveled to San Diego to spend time with my family. I asked my mom if we could make tortillas the way we used to many years ago with my grandmother. During our little cooking and photography session she began telling me of her youthful days growing up in Mexico. She grew up in the countryside where there was a much slower pace to life and every day was lived in the present moment. Lately, I’ve been craving the countryside life. I want to experience that world- if only for a short while. I dream of living amongst nature, having my own vegetable garden and cooking delicious meals and enjoying them out in the warm sunshine with the people I care about. My mom's storytelling and these photos inspire me to do just that.

Those tortillas are beautiful! The site looks wonderful. You really have a talent for recreating an event through photography - I felt like I was in the kitchen with you and your mom while looking through your pictures! I love the photos with her hands.
This is a lovely post. I dream about a more "rural" lifestyle often as well. I think it's something about getting older - you get the urge to plant your own roots somewhere and have a life grow around you.
Next time you are in SD, I would love to see you if you have time, even just for a quick coffee/tea!
These are such beautiful photos. And the food looks amazing - your mom's kitchen looks like a wonderful place to be :) Also, thank you for your lovely comment on the Equals Record today - it makes me so happy to hear you've liked the articles!
Your photos made me hungry. So great that you and your mom shared stories from her past.
I am so glad that I did not grow up with those beautiful tortillas in my household. That is all I would eat if I did!! Yummy.
